Home » Introducing Our New Co-Executive Directors

After an extensive search by Peace is Loud’s staff, board of directors, and KMDB Strategies, we’re thrilled to introduce our new Co-Executive Directors Camaro West and Rebecca Tye!

You may recall that in 2021 we launched our refreshed mission and vision statements. That undertaking required us to look critically at how we work—especially when hiring for the role of executive director. Acknowledging the challenges that come with leadership positions in nonprofits, along with the need to undo internal manifestations of inequality and oppression, we found the collaborative leadership model best to address these realities while aligning strongly with Peace is Loud’s values.

Rebecca and Camaro will share the responsibilities of strategic leadership, operations, and executive coordination. They come to the roles with a shared working history and a strong relationship from their time together at World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Learn more about Camaro and Rebecca below:

What a privilege it is to lead an organization deeply committed to uplifting the storytellers and grassroots movements working to shift power and advance social justice through documenting and sharing stories. As Peace is Loud grows, we look forward to increasing impact support for women and other systems-oppressed filmmakers. We also look forward to embarking on this journey together. As women and mothers, we are determined to prove co-leadership as an effective leadership model that supports collaboration over competition and enables each of us to focus on our areas of strength.Together with an incredibly talented team of staff and supportive board, we’re ready to show that peace is, in fact, loud.”–Camaro West and Rebecca Tye

We are also thrilled to share that after 8 years on Peace is Loud’s Board of Directors, Anne Delaney has been named Interim Board Chair. Anne was an integral part in the growth of Peace is Loud and the executive director search.

“The Peace is Loud Board of Directors is proud to welcome our new Co-Executive Directors Camaro West and Rebecca Tye. We are very excited to introduce this dynamic executive leadership team as they lead us into our second decade with renewed commitment to peace building. We’re in a time where women’s and gender expansive peoples’ voices could not be more critical. I’m enthusiastic to work alongside Rebecca and Camaro as the Interim Board Chair as storytelling for social impact becomes increasingly important to create a just, peaceful world.”

Abigail Disney, who founded Peace is Loud in 2009 after producing her first documentary film Pray the Devil Back to Hell and helped grow the organization from a team of three to a team of ten, will continue to serve Peace is Loud as Legacy Committee Board Member and Chair Emerita.

“We are really fortunate to gain an amazing leadership team with Rebecca and Camaro as Co-Executive Directors. I’m particularly excited for how their complementary skills in innovative fundraising, partnership development, and film impact will support Peace is Loud’s work in 2022 and beyond. I’m also honored to pass the torch of Board Chair to Anne Delaney whose work as a board member has been integral in the evolution of the organization. With the leadership of Camaro, Rebecca, and Anne, Peace is Loud is in a strong position to support the team as they continue to actualize their mission to advance transformative peace and social justice through storytelling.”
